2021 in Vids
Dec. 31st, 2021 19:27Happy New Year's Eve from Philly! Everyone else in our hotel is either a Penn athlete or attending a rave in center city.
The Vids
January
Stranger Companies (A Midsummer Night's Dream 2019) - Festivids 2020
Odds Are (Star Trek: Lower Decks) - Festivids 2020
June
The King & Queen of America (Wonder Woman 1984)
Fire with Fire (Terminator movies)
October
Prologue (Shadow & Bone)
The Questions
Favorite
I like all the vids I make, and while I love Stranger Companies the one that really fired on all cylinders is Odds Are.
Least Favorite
You know, I'm not sure any of them are! Some were a slog, but there's not any that are obviously worse than the others this year.
Most Successful
Odds Are by parsecs--it's on track to be my most watched YouTube vid ever by the end of next year, beating my other high-view vids in half the time.
Most Unappreciated by the Universe
Maybe Stranger Companies? I still get the occasional comment on Prologue, but I feel like Stranger Companies just did not register. Ah well, I still like it.
Most Fun to Make
Probably Odds Are; it came together very quickly and it was pretty fun to do so.
Hardest Vid to Make
Probably Prologue, which wasn't hard so much as constrained in terms of what I could make fit with the lyrics and which therefore required a lot of audio editing and a lot of hard thinking about what to leave out of the vid.
The Things I Learned This Year
I'm not sure whether I learned or relearned this, but both the vids I made for the June cons felt like kind of a slog but both got quite a nice reception in the respective Discords, which was nice. So it's worth doing even if it isn't as perfect as my original idea.
Planning for Next Year
I only made five vids this year, and I would like to get back to my normal output of six. I know that means clipping far in advance, so once I finish this Festivids treat I will be back at it, hopefully at a sustainable pace.
