Suffice it to say I am even less sanguine about Alice and Sam's future in The Magnus Protocol than I was before. (Sidebar: extremely tempted to try to repurpose X-Files footage to make a vid for it.)

Anyway, I'm off to listen to more of The Mechanisms and finally dive into the tumblr tags without fear of spoilers. What a good podcast.

I can tell you at least three books that Jonny Sims has definitely read…

Here we are again in the workplace comedy from hell, except that hell probably looks good to the Archives employees in some respects at this point. I made it through S2 myself in December, and then my brother and I listened to S3 over the holidays. Now it's my audio accompaniment for doing the washing-up, which is slower but I'm still definitely in good time to finish before the start of The Magnus Protocol.

My brother is a huge TMA fan and has been after me to listen to it for eons. I've been reading more horror and horror-adjacent books this year (the last time I really read horror was 2009, and at that point I decided it wasn't really my thing) and while I will never be a horror movie or most horror writing person, this kind of thing is right within my tolerances: as I said to my brother, the "statement" framing means that the protagonists have survived at least long enough to write something down, or make a record. And then Jonathan tells us how they did or did not meet horrible ends in the interim.

My brother came down for an extended Thanksgiving visit and we listened to all of S1 while cooking, washing dishes, and riding around in the car. It was quite creepy to be driving back from Bolinas in the pitch dark, totally alone on the road except for some alarmingly large coyotes, listening to the first case involving a Leitner, let me tell you. Other than that I think the cave diving one was the worst for me, but then I am very firmly never ever going to go cave diving. I was also able to tell my brother that Wilfred Owen was a real poet; he read some of Owen's poems on the internet and pronounced them extremely thematically related, so well done Jonny Sims I guess.

Anyway, I like it! At this point I feel like I don't quite have enough information to really start speculating about the metaplot; there's a lot of things that are obviously connected in some way but the way those bits are connected to the other bits is not yet clear. I have already chipped in ten quid to the Kickstarter for The Magnus Protocol, as I think a U.S. tour would be fun, and I may change that to £20 to get in on the backer exclusive follow-up podcast. I do wonder whether we'll eventually get another series called The Magnus Legacy. I've currently listened through episode 43 and I am enjoying reading other people's contemporaneous reaction posts, but please no spoilers on this post! I've mostly managed to avoid them and I'd like to keep it that way.

Note to self: finish listening to The Mechanisms discography.
