I cannot believe they ended the series with zero character resolution. Loose plot threads, ok. Bad ends for characters is more or less a given for Clamp. But to have literally everyone in the entire series die more or less while Watanuki was sleeping...wow. (I know timeline-wise this is an oversimplification...but it's *Clamp's* oversimplification)

I'm torn...my first thought at mention of this being the Final Chapter was that it was the end of Rou, because he doesn't need a cage anymore. I'm not sure now if that makes me hopeful.

So CLAMP really was referencing Sōseki in this chapter? In retrospect, this does seem to be similar to most of the endings of his novels (i.e., it's subtle, evocative of the transience of life, and mildly depressing), but at least Sōseki never wrote stories with plot-essential mysteries that were never solved.

Not!Doumeki, Watanuki wouldn't feel any pain from forgetting Yuuko, since in forgetting her he'd forget the fact that he forgot her. Besides, what horrible moral on grieving is that? "The only way to move on past the death of a loved one is to forget about her entirely?"

Yes, exactly, WTF. And yes, it is a Sôseki reference. I've never read any of his books, though I have been to the Saka no ue no kumo museum, which is awesome.

I would bet it's to erase memories, but I don't find it very satisfying. What's the point of Watanuki forgetting Yuuko, and why would she arrange for Doumeki('s descendants) to have that burden?

The other egg existed to "create" something, didn't it? I thought Watanuki used it to bring into existence that bird what wasn't affected by Himawari's bad luck.

I guess Doumeki's egg is the opposite and that it can be used to make something not exist, or to take something away.

Dear Starlady,
Thank you so much for all your hard work with the translations. I`ve enjoyed reading Tsubasa and Holic over the years and I really appreciate the work you and others do. I also like reading the comments as I don`t have anyone to talk with about these manga, so the community is nice.

So! Waaaah! Holic is over now too. It`s a bit sad, as I`ve loved Tsubasa and Holic, although they have been a bit disappointing at the end (especially Tsubasa). But still, I love the characters and the art is so beautiful.

100 years! So sad! That`s not even our Doumeki!! Oh no!! What happened to Doumeki?! Well, I guess he had at least one child and grew old. But who did he have it with?!?! Aarghh!! And what about him and Watanuki?!?! Arrrgghh!!!

And what about the Tsubasa guys and who the heck is FWR? I guess that will never be explained. Sigh.

I guess everyone else has already mentioned how stunned they were with the ending, especially with Doumeki's great-grandson. Maybe it's shocking because it's so abruptly revealed, Watanuki being so casual about mentioning it. And then how abruptly Not!Doumeki walks off looking at the Egg MacGuffin.
