Yuuko: For the sake of the day that would come, I kept granting wishes in that shop.

Those days will now end too.

Watanuki.I will grant your wish too.
When I disappear, you will no longer be able to see spirits with that eye.
And they will not be attracted to that blood.
----------------------
!!! page 02
Watanuki: That
What
Suddenly

Right,
the store.

What will happen to the store?

I did my best!

You told me to take on that customer, Yuuko-san.
Somehow she's becoming cheerful--

She said she wants me to teach her cooking after this too!
----------------------
!!! page 03
Watanuki: Right, cooking!

Since you said you wanted to eat them, Yuuko-san, I'll pickle umeboshi--

And I know about the plum wine already--

And sake too--

Even if Doumeki's alone, he's like a python--

It won't be less than before--
----------------------
!!! page 04
Watanuki: Yuuko-san, if you're not there--
Not there--

Yuuko-san...

Yuuko-san...

Please

Say this

Is some kind of dream...
----------------------
!!! page 05
Yuuko: I won't lie to you, Watanuki.

Because you mean the world to me.

Watanuki: ...Wa, please wait!

This,
This--

FX: Jerking

Watanuki: There should be something!
----------------------
!!! page 07
Watanuki: Because you're right here before my eyes, Yuuko-san, now!
I can speak to you fine!

Something!
Absolutely!!

A way!!
----------------------
!!! page 08
Yuuko: ...Watanuki.

Watanuki: ...This is utterly
Awful...

Yuuko: I want to grant that wish,

But I

Cannot.
----------------------
!!! page 09
Watanuki: ...I,
Wishes,
I can't grant.

Your wish, Yuuko-san.

Though I said
That I could.

...Though I promised.

Yuuko: My wish, indeed.
----------------------
!!! page 10-11
Yuuko: As long as you exist,
That is enough.
----------------------
!!! page 12
Watanuki: Then,
That wish,

I can definitely grant.
----------------------
!!! page 13
Watanuki: If dreams can be granted if they're wished strongly enough,
I want to see you again, Yuuko-san.

So

Watanuki: I am here, and waiting until I can see you again, [TN: "Here" is written "the store".]
Yuuko-san.

sounds like it'll end like wish (but i doubt clamp would do the same thing twice).

I found the end of Wish pretty skeevy. I hope it's not completely the same.

Is this "that moment," or is that still yet to come? I wonder how Doumeki and the egg will tie into this.

The dialogue in both xxxHOLiC and TRC is often stilted and unnatural (something which Ms. Ohkawa was apparently attempting to do), but Watanuki's words here are heartbreaking.

It doesn't read terribly stilted in the original, in my opinion at least--I fear that my efforts have fallen short in that respect. Though in HOLiC, people do talk elliptically, and tend to be brief. But these past few chapters have been pretty broken, syntax-wise, and I've tried to preserve that.

Is that so? I do like your translations, but I wish I could read the original so as to understand where you're coming from.

Although, I think I used the wrong word to describe the characters' dialogue. It seems...well, I don't want to say "inhuman," because that would be far from the truth. but it's removed from what I consider to be normal speech. What seems to be the worst problem with it is how unreasonably vague the characters can be--to the point where their own personal motives for withholding information are obscured by CLAMP's obvious desire to keep certain aspects of the plot hidden.

That's what bothers me: they sometimes seem more like characters in a story, as opposed to real people. That's acting on the presumption that all good fiction strives to connect to the reader on a personal level, of course.

I hope that was clear--I'm not particularly skilled at articulating my thoughts about what I read. >_

Put that way, I can see what you mean. Particularly in HOLiC, people are vague and elliptical--that said, though, indirection is a direct marker of politeness in Japanese, and people in this manga are almost always polite. To me, they are definitely on the vague/reserved end of the continuum, but I wouldn't say they fall noticeably outside the range of speech I heard in Japan. Also people just talk less in HOLiC (particularly since I started translating the SFX, I've noticed how quiet a manga it is compared to TRC), which makes their utterances even more cryptic.
