Via [livejournal.com profile] eumelia, former LJ early adopter account holder void-star on LJ, malware, internet advertising and YOU. Holy sketchy corporate decisions, Batman!

So, yes. I was planning to make a post to say that the tags on this journal are no longer entirely up to date; I retagged my book posts at DW recently to include author's names in tags, and have no plans to do the same thing here on my LJ because it's tedious beyond belief. Tags will be current between DW and LJ going forward, of course. Also, I went back and transcribed my few voice posts, as well as pasting the transcriptions into the DW entries, in preparation for the voice posts themselves being deleted from the servers within the next six months. (I say "um" on the cell phone a lot, particularly when it's 2am and I'm tired.)

After last time, I let my LJ paid account lapse; I'm now considering removing (some?) content from LJ altogether. The logical place to start would be my earliest entries, which are now almost entirely eyes-only. I have no intention of deleting discussion posts, however, and I will continue to crosspost here, since I don't want to impose my own personal decisions about LJ on other LJ users.

I don't have any Dreamwidth invite codes at the moment, but there's always [site community profile] dw_codesharing for those considering other journaling services. And for those out there who read this blog because they know me personally but don't have LJ accounts (you know who you are ^_^), I'd much prefer to have you at [personal profile] starlady.

I have three invite codes for Dreamwidth that it does not appear that I am going to be using. So if anyone is interested let me me know you're e-mail and I'd be happy to send them to you.

It's nice to know that lj is getting more sketchy.

It's like gravity, or better yet, entropy.

Yeah, I just gave away my last code this week. Hopefully they will distribute some more soon...though maybe not since they still haven't found a replacement for PayPal. Damn Paypal.

i have 2 invites up for grabs.

can't bring myself to use dreamwidth when most of the fluffy fandom is still here at lj. i use google reader and my flist alot, so i don't see ads unless i specifically go to someone's lj page. (that bestbuy ad was terribly annoying over the holidays).

i hope you still feed your translations here. :)

Oh yes, the translations are staying. :-) I even enabled Google finding this journal a while back to facilitate that.

I see a lot of people saying "where's the critical mass?" and I think partly it's a circle sort of thing. I stumbled into DW, which is full of people who mirror or who moved entirely, so my perspective is now warped. And I still spend a gratuitous amount of time here. But in my own way I want to be part of the critical mass, if it ever coheres.

The day LJ figures a way to put ads on my flist, though, is the day I am gone. *contemplates that sentence* You know, I wouldn't put it past them to try. If I didn't have a basic account I don't know what I'd have done.

I'm only on the internet for maybe fifteen minutes a day anymore, since I can't use my main computer because it's too far away from the router now and my laptop is 10 years old.... but yes, the ads are obnoxious and I'm generally annoyed with LJ for it.
One of these days when I'm home sick or something and have nothing better to do I might see about jumping ship, but yes, lots of friends still post here.

I'm mostly stuck in the same boat as [livejournal.com profile] nokiirat, since most of my friends aren't moving to Dreamwidth anytime soon. Likewise, I'm stuck with Plus/Ad-o-riffic, since I'm currently using LiveJournal as my image host. I'd have to transfer all of my images to a different host, then fix the coding for all of my posts over at the comm so that they would still be accessible (since there's nothing more annoying than an icon post filled with broken links!). :/

But thank you for the information! It's always better to know about these things beforehand before getting surprised with them.

It's been a good thing for finally forcing me to install AdBlockPlus and the LJ-specific ad-blocking filters (http://wiki.noljads.com/Using_AdBlock_and_AdBlock_Plus), if nothing else. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say.
