Well, there is still an epilogue chapter left for you to translate after this, if you feel like translating that is, so it's not totally 'the end' yet I guess aha~ The chapter's title is a bit worrisome somehow...? I just hope we won't get the exact same repeat of chapter 1 again, that would be 'version 3' already ^^;;

Well, the last chapter was a disappointment, not that I'm surprised by this fact or anything, but it felt weird: I expected it, since at this point of the manga pretty much nothing could satisfy us with all the plots holes and unanswered questions left hanging, but still, did actually some part of me still hope....?
The only 'surprise' was for Syaoran to get a feather inside of him too.
But really, that 'Syaoran' we are left with has really be angsty from start to end, always wearing a tired and painful face almost all the time, of course, it's due to the hard circumstances of his life but still, after watching him making a sad face for the past 2-3 years, I really got tired of it *sigh*
As for that 'Sakura', she doesn't interest me at all: there is no way I can get attached to a character I know nothing about beside some flashback scenes, unlike the other Sakura, I did not see her 'in action', I did not see the evolution of her character during the years nor anything: the fact she is named "Sakura" and has the face of "Sakura" doesn't attract me to this person at all. So yeah, whatever happens to her I don't care.
And seriously, WTH with her saying 'I knew this would be happening' *rolls eyes* So anti-climatic, I mean come on!!! Almost one of your first words awakened is 'Duh!I knew it!' *gah!*
I at least hope Syaoran's price will be revealed somehow in the epilogue (we already know that Watanuki's price is not aging and waiting forever for Yuuko inside the shop).

I've suspected for a while now that the vampire plotline was never going to be resolved--that it was essentially a teaser for X, although Tokyo did really crack the TRC plot, too.

Kurogane swore he'd come back to Princess Tomoyo, so I feel safe in assuming that he and Fai will both wind up in Nihon-koku eventually.

yep i think they will go to Nihon(too if Ohkawa doesn't mess up more with Fay saying i will stay by my daughter side) but that don't satisfies me at all !!!

i really hope a better end for holic!!(it have less plot holes, the egg is the big one)

Having read most of the series, I have to say that there is such a disconnect from the beginning of the series for me. And I still am not 100% sure which Sakura and Syaoran we ended up with ^^;;;

That's what I meant. The pair we started with were the clones. Now we have a pair of new characters - so it is a disconnect from the start of the series in a sense because they can be considered completely different characters. *mindtwist*

It is definitely a very big contrast between this and the beginning of the series. I can remember reading the Del Rey version of volume 1 and thinking, "It's like CCS! But they're older!" ...No.

I'm pretty sure that it's the clones who vanished and the originals who survived, though I'd be interested to know whether Fujitaka and Nadeshiko are still alive in that castle, and whether they expect Sakura to be seven or sixteen.

I have to say, though, that I do think Del Rey does a good job with the American editions. I know people have issues with some of their decisions about covers, etc, but I think the translation and the footnotes are pretty good--or at least, they were when I was reading them, which is years ago now.

Del Rey definitely is a lot better than Tokyopop, that's for sure. (I especially appreciate the footnotes--especially the ones in xxxHOLiC.) They have run into problems, though: I think oryssein actually wrote an essay on translation problems in the American editions, back when she was still in the fandom. Even so, Dark Horse's work on the Gate 7 project looks promising!

Yeah, particularly in Holic, the footnotes are essential--and I've checked the ones for the later TRC volumes a few times, too.

I think I stopped reading the official American versions around 8 or 9, so again, it's been years. I could easily see that there'd be problems in the long run with a series like this, though--you make a judgment call in, say, volume 8 that turns out to have been wrong in 22, and there's basically nothing to be done about it. I got into reading the manga in the Japanese, and then translating publicly, first because I wanted to see the text for myself and then because I saw a niche to be filled, but there's a lot more that I can do in my translations because I'm not bound by print considerations, such as linking to the webpage of the exact sake Doumeki wanted in the last chapter of Holic. And I can go back and edit my translations with absolutely no problems.

Yeah, I think Dark Horse is doing heaps for Clamp and for Clamp fans outside Japan--the Gate 7 business is the prime example, but the reissues of the lapsed TP manga licenses, X/1999 being re-released by Funimation next year, are other instances. Hopefully DH will be able to convince publishers in Japan that global manga is a viable concern, and that Clamp's unfinished manga should be finished.
